The Perfect Heart

The Perfect Heart

I would like to share this touching story with everyone who has a perfect heart...

One day, a young man was standing in the middle of the town proclaiming that he had the most beautiful heart in the whole valley. A large crowd gathered and they all admired his heart for it was perfect. There was not a mark or a flaw in it. Yes, they all agreed it truly was the most beautiful heart they had ever seen. The young man was very proud and boasted more loudly about his beautiful heart.

Suddenly, an old man appeared at the front of the crowd and said, "Why your heart is not nearly as beautiful as mine." The crowd and the young man looked at the old man's heart. It was beating strongly, but full of scars, it had places where pieces had been removed and other pieces put in, but they didn't fit quite right and there were several jagged edges. In fact, in some places there were deep gouges where whole pieces were missing. The people stared -- how can he say his heart is more beautiful, they thought?

The young man looked at the old man's heart and saw its state and laughed. "You must be joking," he said. "Compare your heart with mine, mine is perfect and yours is a mess of scars and tears."

"Yes," said the old man, "yours is perfect looking but I would never trade with you.  You see, every scar represents a person to whom I have given my love - I tear out a piece of my heart and give it to them, and often they give a piece of their heart which fits into the empty place in my heart, but because the pieces aren't exact, I have some rough edges, which I cherish, because they remind me of the love we shared.”

“Sometimes I have given pieces of my heart away, and the other person hasn't returned a piece of his heart to me. These are the empty gouges -- giving love is taking a chance. Although these gouges are painful, they stay open, reminding me of the love I have for these people too, and I hope someday they may return and fill the space I have waiting. So now do you see what true beauty is?"

The young man stood silently with tears running down his cheeks. He walked up to the old man, reached into his perfect young and beautiful heart, and ripped a piece out. He offered it to the old man with trembling hands. The old man took his offering, placed it in his heart and then took a piece from his old scarred heart and placed it in the wound in the young man's heart. It fit, but not perfectly, as there were some jagged edges. The young man looked at his heart, not perfect anymore but more beautiful than ever, since love from the old man's heart flowed into his. They embraced and walked away side by side.

Picture Perfect - Extravagance

I always think that it is not really necessary to have a car if staying in Singapore.
Besides it is very expensive to own one here, thus I consider having a car is a luxury not a necessity.

Imagine having this cool car loaded with the super sound blasters, Hi-Fi speakers (picture taken along one of the streets in Rotterdam) ...

It is totally Extravagance!

The Miracle of Rose

Growing Older is Mandatory. Growing Up is Optional.
We make a Living by what we get. We make a Life by what we give.
God promises a safe landing, not a calm passage.
If God brings you to it - He will bring you through it.

I received the following inspiring story from a friend five years ago. And now I would like to share it with all of you.  Just spare a few minutes of your time reading it and listening to the song, I'm sure you will gain something for the rest of your life.

The first day of school our professor introduced himself and challenged us to get to know someone we didn't already know. I stood up to look around when a gentle hand touched my shoulder. I turned around to find a wrinkled, little old lady beaming up at me with a smile that lit up her entire being.

She said, "Hi handsome. My name is Rose. I'm eighty-seven years old. Can I give you a hug?"

I laughed and enthusiastically responded, "Of course you may!" and she gave me a giant squeeze.

"Why are you in college at such a young, innocent age?" I asked.

She jokingly replied, "I'm here to meet a rich husband, get married, have a couple of kids..."

"No seriously," I asked. I was curious what may have motivated her to be taking on this challenge at her age.

"I always dreamed of having a college education and now I'm getting one!" she told me.

After class we walked to the student union building and shared a chocolate milkshake. We became instant friends. Every day for the next three months I was always mesmerized listening to this "time machine" as she shared her wisdom and experience with me.

Over the course of the year, Rose became a campus icon and she easily made friends wherever she went. She loved to dress up and she revel in the attention bestowed upon her from the other students. She was living it up.

At the end of the semester we invited Rose to speak at our football banquet.

I'll never forget what she taught us. She was introduced and stepped up to the podium. As she began to deliver her prepared speech, she dropped her three by five cards on the floor.

Frustrated and a bit embarrassed she leaned into the microphone and simply said, "I'm sorry I'm so jittery. I gave up beer for Lent and this whiskey is killing me! I'll never get my speech back in order so let me just tell you what I know."

As we laughed she cleared her throat and began, "We do not stop playing because we are old; we grow old because we stop playing. There are only a few secrets to staying young, being happy, and achieving success. You have to laugh and find humor every day. You've got to have a dream. When you lose your dreams, you die. We have so many people walking around who are dead and don't even know it! There is a huge difference between growing older and growing up. If you are nineteen years old and lie in bed for one full year and don't do one productive thing, you will turn twenty years old. If I am eighty-seven years old and stay in bed for a year and never do anything I will turn eighty-eight. Anybody can grow older. That doesn't take any talent or ability. The idea is to grow up by always finding the opportunity in change. Have no regrets. The elderly usually don't have regrets for what we did, but rather for things we did not do. The only people who fear death are those with regrets."

She concluded her speech by courageously singing "The Rose". She challenged each of us to study the lyrics and live them out in our daily lives. At the year's end Rose finished the college degree she had begun all those years ago.

One week after graduation Rose died peacefully in her sleep. Over two thousand college students attended her funeral in tribute to the wonderful woman who taught by example that it's never too late to be all you can possibly be.

I have searched for the lyrics of the song "The Rose" and studied it.  It is a very beautiful song that touches my heart and quakes my soul.

The Rose
written by Amanda McBroom
performed by Bette Midler

Some say love, it is a river,
that drowns the tender reed.
Some say love, it is a razor,
that leaves your soul to bleed.
Some say love, it is a hunger,
an endless aching need.

I say love, it is a flower,
and you its only seed.
It's the heart afraid of breaking
that never learns to d
ance.
It's the dream afraid of waking
that never takes the chance.
It's the one who won't be taken,
who cannot seem to give,
and the soul afraid of dying
that never learns to live.
When the night has been too lonely
and the road has been too long,
and you think that love is only
for the lucky and the strong,
just remember in the winter
far beneath the bitter snows
lies the seed that with the sun's love
in the spring becomes the rose.

How Is Your Inner Child?

Through all these Blogthings' tests that I have taken, bit by bit, my character is being revealed.

I just can't believe how amazing these tests are.  Whatever my mind is thinking, however my heart is feeling, they seemed to know.

***Your Inner Child Is Sad***

You're a very sensitive soul.

You haven't grown that thick skin that most adults have.

Easily hurt, you tend to retreat to your comfort zone.

You don't let many people in - unless you've trusted them for a long time.

Where Should You Live?

Blogthings - "Where Should You Live?" Quiz

***You Should Live In The Country***

You are laid back, calm, and good at entertaining yourself.

You don't need an expensive big city to keep you busy.

You'll take the peaceful life over the stressful life any day of the week.

What Muse Are You?

***Your Inner Muse is Melpomene***

You are most like this muse of tragedy.

While you aren't depressed, you don't shy away from sadness.

Although you do tend to be gloomy, you have a sensitive side.

And this sensitive side helps inspire and help others.

What Is Your Life Path Number?

When I was young, I used to have had the way of life that I wished to, but ended up having many bad memories.
I have been deep in thoughts for all these years.  While recalling my own past experiences, slowly I started to realise that the purpose of me coming to this world is not for myself at all, but for others, to help others and inspire others, to ensure they are ok.
It does not matter whether I am living a good life, happy or sad, so long as others are happy and have no problem, I'm also happy and that's where my true happiness begins.

***Your Life Path Number is 11***

Your purpose in life is to inspire others

Your amazing energy draws people to you, and you give them great insight in return.

You hold a great amount of power over others, without even trying.

You have the makings of an inventor, artist, religious leader, or prophet.

In love, you are sensitive and passionate.

You connect with your partner on a very deep level.

You have great abilities, but you are often way too critical of yourself.

You don't fit in - and instead of celebrating your differences, you dwell on them.

You have high expectations of yourself. But sometimes you set them too high and don't achieve anything.

What Color Should You Paint Your Room?

Blogthings - "What Color Should You Paint Your Room?" Quiz

Since I'm so stressed, I think I have to paint the whole house blue.

***You Should Paint Your Room Blue***

Peaceful and soothing, blue rooms have been known to reduce blood pressure.

Your blue room will encourage deep rest and great sleep.

A blue room is the perfect oasis for a stressful life.

Are You Living The Wrong Life?

True enough, I have too many outstanding things need to settle at the same time.  My head is going to explode.  I just don't know what to do...sigh...hope I can get back to the right track soon.

***Your Life is 75% Off Track***

If you're honest with yourself, you have to admit that you often feel like you're living the wrong life.

It's a pretty easy conclusion to come to - because it seems like not a lot is going right.

Consider finding a life coach or mentor.

You need some encouragement in turning your life around.

Do You Worry Too Much?

Blogthings - "Do You Worry Too Much?" Quiz

***Your Worry Factor is 92%***

You worry way too much.

It's practically ruining your life.

If there's anything bad that could possibly happen, you've worried about it.

Chill out a little, and realize that life is pretty great as is.

Sure, things may go wrong. But if they do, you will be able to deal with them.

Are You Too Negative?

Blogthings - "Are You Too Negative?" Quiz

I really don't know what else can I do besides keeping  all my feelings to myself.  Talk to someone? Who can I talk to ? Everyone has his/her own problems, I do not wish to add moire problems to anyone, in the end, I'm still the only one who has to face it and solve it myself.

***You Are a Little Negative***

You can be negative from time to time, but you rarely go overboard.

You have a realistic view of the world, and most people appreciate your honest insights.

Like everyone else, you have your darker moods.

But when you're feeling super negative, you keep your feelings to yourself.

You are a loner, and you're fine with that.

You find the most fulfillment in solitude. And you never feel more lonely than when you're in a crowd.

You fall in love with ease and confidence.

Even if you've had bad experiences in the past, each new love is a reason to start completely over.

You are deeply passionate about several things in your life.

You're not passionate about much...and the few passions you have are truly obsessions.

Your sense of humor is intellectual and obscure.

Only really well educated people get your jokes.
